The Urban Land Institute (ULI) Cleveland, in partnership with the City of Cleveland and with support from the Cleveland Foundation, is excited to announce the release of our summary report on the Building the 21st Century City: The Future is Now! Virtual Symposium.
The Symposium, held on March 2-3 of this year, was envisioned as Phase 1 of a multi-phase project, a phase that would provide an opportunity for robust discussion and exchange of ideas. The Symposium certainly lived up to that expectation, as the day and a half of the Symposium flew by.
We are eager to move on to Phase 2 on November 10. Phase 2 will focus on distilling the results of the Symposium into a short list of viable policies, projects and programs that the City and its community partners should consider as they work towards the bright future of a true 21st Century City for all residents. Mayor Jackson’s leadership has created an opportunity for this important collaboration between ULI Cleveland and the City of Cleveland. Planning Director Collier has been the driving force in our work on the Symposium and beyond. But the lessons of the Symposium are not limited to this year, or this Mayor and City administration; they will provide guidance far into the future.
ULI looks forward to continuing to work with the City of Cleveland and other community partners to advance the goals discussed at the Symposium.
On Wednesday, November 10th, we will reconvene to kick-off Phase 2 of the Building the 21st Century City: The Future is Now!‘ project. We will build on the findings from the Symposium, which was Phase 1, to further refine and prioritize critical actions that will advance transformative efforts in Technology, Mobility, and Inclusive Economic Development.
One of the overarching takeaways highlighted in the report was that “Cleveland should start the process of transforming to a 21st Century City by determining principles and values. Then, the City can take actions and test technologies that align with its principles.”
To that end, we ask that you complete a survey (link below), which is intended to gather your perceptions and perspectives about principles and values you think should guide Cleveland’s transformation. All are invited to complete the survey, even if you are not available to attend the November 10 event. Considered collectively, your input will lead to a set of shared principles and values to guide our work as an ecosystem to address the complex issues we face. Please complete and submit the survey by the end of the day on Thursday, November 4.
We will share the themes from this survey as we continue to refine this cornerstone set of principles and values.
