Job Description
Position Summary
As part of the ESG and Sustainability team, the Analyst will join a group of strategic ESG professionals charged with coordination and implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies for the organization. This individual will support Brookfield Properties’ development group’s ESG and Sustainability Leadership on implementation of company-wide and asset-level Sustainability initiatives, including operationalization of sustainability at the project level; project management of ESG data governance, collection, and reporting; and support in various aspects of ESG communications.
Areas of Responsibility
Development
- Coordinate LEED, WELL, Fitwel certifications, including coordinating consultants, liaising with Operations, and providing documentation for some credits
- Assess and recommend sustainability strategies; implement pilot projects
- Contribute and revise ESG and sustainability content during annual updates to Project Design Standards
- Coordinate development of project case studies
- Track and aggregate project data
- Contribute to Investment Committee memos
- Support integration of ESG strategies into new and evolving lines of business
- Collaborate with Procurement on Supply Chain ESG initiatives, such as embodied carbon reduction and healthy materials specifications
Corporate ESG
- Support annual ESG reporting (data management and analysis); monitor and track progress against ESG goals and metrics
- Support greenhouse gas accounting (Scope 1, 2, and 3)
- Respond to internal and external requests for ESG data, case studies, and other information
- Contribute to RFP responses, community presentations, entitlements process, etc. for new business and existing project pipeline
- Support other projects, as needed
Administration
- Coordinate consultant contracts for both corporate and project-specific work
- Coordinate consultant invoicing
- Complete quarterly reporting on ESG
- Contribute to annual business planning and goal-setting as it pertains to ESG
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Real Estate, Architecture, Engineering, Business, Sustainability or related field (Required)
- 3+ Years working on sustainability in real estate development and/or operations
- LEED AP (BD+C or Homes preferred) or LEED GA
- Experience with green building rating systems, such as LEED, WELL, and Fitwel
- Familiarity with ESG reporting (e.g., GRESB, GRI, TCFD)
- Experience analyzing ESG data, including GHG emissions accounting
- Ability to take initiative and proactively perform work with limited supervision
- Collaborative approach and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams in development, design, construction, and corporate functions to achieve the best business outcomes
- Strong business acumen
- Ability to drive change through an organization
